End-Of-Life Care

In discussion with Mr Doherty and the nursing staff, you:

1. Cease all oral medications as she is not conscious

2. Cease the antibiotics

3. Cease performing observations

4. Prescribe a small amount of subcutaneous morphine to be administered prior to pressure cares being performed by the       nursing staff

5. Prescribe a small amount of midazolam subcutaneously on an as needed basis in case she becomes agitated or                   distressed

6. The nursing staff perform regular mouth care to keep her oral mucosa moist

7. The chaplain visits regularly to check on Mr and Mrs Doherty

Mrs Doherty appears comfortable and Mr Doherty keeps a vigil at her bedside.
