Dr Zheng and his family both agree that it is important for him to learn about his diagnosis. All are present at the time of communicating the diagnosis.

As a general point it is often a good idea to

  • Offer time to talk with family before a second discussion.  Sometimes the second discussion will be with another health care worker, in this case perhaps the referring GP.  The GP may appreciate an opportunity to discuss Mr Zheng’s care before he presents.
  • Refer to Alzheimer’s Australia. Courses and help sheets are also available (Such as those regarding Alzheimer’s Disease and information for family and friends).
  • Check if the patient or family have any questions
