Thank you very much for the tea. As you know your Dr has asked me to come and find out if we can help you at all. Can you tell me how things are going?
I can understand you feeling like that. If it is OK though, I would still like to find out a bit more about how things are going. How do you spend your free time?
Do you have any friends close by?
Are you able to do your own shopping, cooking and other day to day tasks?
Do you have any difficulties dressing yourself, feeding yourself or using the bathroom?
Have you experienced any memory problems?
Have you experienced any falls recently?
Thank you for coming, but I am sure there are lots of old people who could use your help more than us! We are really OK and I think Dr Tim tends to interfere too much.
Ben and I love our stories, so we usually read in the afternoons. Well, I read out loud and Ben listens along Ė we really enjoy that time.
We used to play bowls, croquet, occasional card games, bingo and we loved to go fishing. Since we moved we mostly just keep to ourselves. Itís harder to get to know people in this neighbourhood.
Not really no. Not close by. Although we are quite friendly with the man who runs the newsagency and the lady who delivers the post.
Well, since I gave up my driverís license, weíve stopped going to the supermarket as often. We used to go for a walk every few days to buy some groceries, but since Iíve been short of breath so often lately, we havenít been for a while.
Ben isnít too comfortable with making the walk by himself, what with his eyesight and all, so we tend to just take a taxi to do our shopping every so often. As far as cooking and other day-to-day tasks go, Iíve just been so tired and breathless lately, I just donít seem to have the energy to do too much at all.
No, I can manage those things alright, though I do get breathless sometimes.
And the showering love?
Yes, itís a bit embarrassing, but I am finding it a bit difficult to wash myself these days, especially washing my hair, my arms just get so tired. After showering and dressing, I get so out of breath and tired that I have to rest for a while. Well it all just seems like so much fuss. As we donít go out that often, I only tackle the shower every now and then.
No, well, not that Iím aware of!
No, her memory is just as good as itís always been Ė got a memory like an elephant I always say!
